Placed at the heart of the composition, the horse sits enthroned, shaped with a blowtorch from gray and white crystal rods. Driven by an indomitable passion, it rears up, elusive and free, in a perfect balance between brute strength and infinite grace.
Its hooves slice through the air while its mane dances with the wind. Surrounded by a glowing millefiori made from a multitude of shimmering candies (red, orange, and yellow), the horse radiates power and energy.
The whole is frozen in a clear crystal cylinder, itself encircled by a cap made of a layer of amethyst crystal and another of white enamel. The latter is coated with a layer of clear crystal, on which a white filigree is chiseled.
The paperweight is decorated with dancing and animated arabesques, echoing the strength and energy of the fire horse it concentrates within. The entire piece is finally covered with a thicker layer of clear crystal.
On the back, the paperweight is decorated with arabesques, created using the sandblasting technique. These arabesques evoke vibrant flames. These arabesques are hand-painted with 24-karat gold.

Today, Saint-Louis crystal is the only one that still creates these precious sulphides. As early as the 16th century, Murano’s glassmakers made glass balls in which they trapped twisted rods and multicoloured ribbons. The first paperweight signed by Saint-Louis was not created until 1845. Follow the creations of the Baccarat and many others. The infatuation is immediate and the vogue lasts until 1860. Production then declined and ceased towards the end of the century.
From time immemorial, the paperweight intrigues, questions and excites. These little glass balls are part of the history of French glassware. Collectors include Queen Victoria, Empress Eugenie, King Farouk, and Jeanne Lanvin
Saint-Louis perpetuates this tradition with an exclusive production. Indeed, every year, four to eight paperweights are created in limited and numbered series.
To better understand this know-how, Saint-Louis offers a visit to its workshops by reservation. During your visit, a stop is made at the paperweight workshop. Each paperweight need ten hours of work! Five to six people work at this workshop, requiring great patience.
