LALIQUE HOT WORK PROCESS :
The manufacturing process comprises 2 essential stages : the “hot glass” and “cold glass” processes. The stage of Hot Glass process includes the operations of gathering, cleaning, shaping and re heating.
Each piece is born from fusing crystal, the fruit of a battle with time and temperature. The molten crystal is gathered at the centre of the crucible by the Glass Master with a cane. The fireballs then cross furtively in a rate perfectly orchestrated by the chief of place. For large items, the gathering is carried out in several times and can reach up 30 kg of molten crystal. Cleaning consists in removing every bubbles and imperfections are removed from these fireballs with scissors.
Shaping and re heating : The item is shaped according to various techniques which range from “soufflé fixe” to “soufflé tourné” or “pressé” then carried with the help of a tool called “pontil” to the re heating arch. It is set down on a conveyor belt, and goes through decreasing temperatures to cool off gently. This stabilises the internal tensions of crystal. Otherwise, the piece would burst at the smallest shock.
