♦ THE FIRST BACCARAT PAPERWEIGHT :

True collector's piece, the paperweight returns to fashion, but not just any one. The "Millefiori" paperweight was an object of lust by illustrious collectors. The writer Colette, a great collector, was in raptures especially in front of its beauty and the mystery around its manufacture.
This crystal paperweight is so special, makes us think of a multitude of small flowers, which seem to float. Like a crystal herbarium.

It was in 1846 that Baccarat created the first paperweights. When in 1853 the first Baccarat church was built, a glassmaker produced a paperweight and inserted it into the foundations of the building, which collapsed under the bombardments during the Second World War, In 1945.

This amazing paperweight was found during the rebuilding of the church in 1953. A superb discovery that allowed Baccarat to be able to manufacture it, and in particular the reissue of this paperweight, in 1953. It was baptized "paperweight of the church".
